Privacy Policy

Effective: October 24, 2026

This policy explains what the developer of Uncloud (“Uncloud”, “we”, “us”) collects, why, and the choices you have. It covers the Uncloud app for Mac and the website at getuncloud.vercel.app.

In short: Uncloud has no accounts. Your photos and your Apple account never reach us, and the app doesn’t send us anything about you.

Not affiliated with Apple

Uncloud is an independent app. It is not affiliated with, endorsed, sponsored, or approved by Apple Inc. Apple, iCloud, iCloud Photos and Mac are trademarks of Apple Inc. Apple’s handling of your data is covered by Apple’s own privacy policy, not this one.

What stays on your Mac and never reaches us

  • Your photos and videos. They are downloaded directly from Apple, or read from Photos on your Mac, and written to the drive you choose. They never pass through our servers.
  • Your Apple account sign-in. Your Apple account email address and password, and the session Apple gives you, are kept on your Mac in the macOS Keychain and the app’s storage. Uncloud uses them only to talk to Apple for you.
  • Your library details. This means file names, dates, places, the list of what’s backed up, and the app’s settings and history. It stays on your Mac and on your backup drive.

What we collect

  • Accounts from earlier test versions. Some earlier test versions asked you to create an Uncloud account with your email address. If you did, we still hold that email address and when the account was created and last used, until you ask us to delete it. The current app has no accounts.
  • Technical logs. When you visit the website or download the app, our hosting providers record standard request data such as IP address, time and the request made. We don’t use them to track you.
  • Support emails. If you write to us, we keep the conversation so we can help you.
  • Waitlist. If you joined the waitlist before launch, we kept your email to tell you about the launch. You can ask us to delete it.

We don’t use advertising, analytics or tracking tools in the app or on the website. We don’t sell or share your personal information for advertising.

Place names

Browse Backup can show place names for photos that have a location. To find a name, the app sends the photo’s approximate coordinates to Apple’s mapping service through macOS. It doesn’t send the photo itself, and the coordinates never reach us. The names are kept on your Mac.

Service providers

We use these providers. They process data only on our behalf:

  • Supabase stores the accounts from earlier test versions until they’re deleted.
  • Vercel hosts our server and website.
  • GitHub hosts the app downloads. GitHub may log downloads under its own privacy policy.

These providers may store data in the United States or other countries. Where the law requires it, we rely on appropriate safeguards for those transfers.

How long we keep data

  • Accounts from earlier test versions: until you ask us to delete them.
  • Logs and abuse-limit records: kept for a short period, as set by our providers.
  • Support emails: kept as long as needed to help you.

Your choices and rights

  • Delete an earlier account. If you created an Uncloud account in an earlier test version, email us and we’ll delete it. It doesn’t touch your photos, your Mac, your backup drive or your iCloud library.
  • Sign out of your Apple account in the app. This removes the saved Apple session and password from your Mac.
  • Uninstall Uncloud. This stops all data use. Data the app stored on your Mac and your backup drive stays until you delete it.
  • Ask about your data. Depending on where you live, for example in Canada, the EU, the UK or California, you may have the right to:
    • access your personal information
    • correct it
    • delete it
    • receive a copy of it
    • object to how we use it
Email us to make a request. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

Security

We use encrypted connections (HTTPS). No system is perfectly secure, so keep your Mac protected.

Children

Uncloud isn’t directed to children under 13, or under the minimum age where you live. We don’t knowingly collect their information. If you believe we hold a child’s information, contact us and we’ll delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. When we do, we’ll change the date above. If a change is significant, we’ll also tell you in the app or by email.
